Swedish MEP Abir Al-Sahlani spent most of her allotted speaking time at an EU parliamentary session in silence to protest Israel’s war on Gaza, before saying there were “no more words to speak about what’s going on in Gaza” and that “human rights have a skin colour”.

“There are no more words to express what’s going on in Gaza, Mr. President of this session. There are no more laws to break, and there are no more appeals that we can make regarding the ongoing hypocrisy. Our collective humanity has failed; we pledged not to fail, but here we are failing again. Human rights seem to have a skin color, and the darker you are, the fewer human rights you have. Attempts have been made to silence us, to paint us as anti-Semites, to portray us as indifferent to the safety of the Israeli people—all of this, unfortunately, to justify the killing of more Palestinians. Thank you.” – Abir Al-Sahlani
