Israeli ambassador denies Palestinians have a right to a state
Israeli Envoy Dismisses Palestinian Statehood as “Absolutely No”
Israel’s ambassador to the UK has sparked outrage after bluntly rejecting the notion of an independent Palestinian state in a television interview. Tzipi Hotovely dismissed the two-state framework as a “failed” paradigm that must be replaced, denying Palestinians a right to sovereign territory of their own.
“The answer is absolutely no,” Hotovely responded when asked point blank if the vision included Palestinian statehood. She defiantly declared the idea obsolete nearly three decades after the Oslo Accords held out hope for a negotiated settlement between two autonomous nations.
With peace talks moribund and violence engulfing Gaza, Hotovely instead spoke chillingly of “re-education” for Palestinians under indefinite Israeli occupation. She invoked post-WWII Allied reprogramming of German and Japanese societies, signalling potential attempts to erase Palestinian identity and nationalism in some Orwellian nightmare of re-education.
The unapologetically hardline envoy has previously proclaimed Israel entitled to annex all contested territory, dismissing global criticism. Her latest remarks openly telegraph the government’s ideological refusal to accommodate Palestinian self-determination in any form.
They also expose as hollow Prime Minister Netanyahu’s attempts to portray the current Gaza offensive as strictly “anti-terrorist” rather than fundamentally aimed at extinguishing hopes for a viable Palestinian state. Hotovely’s blunt words tore away the fig leaf.
Her message outraged Palestinian leaders as effectively cheering on apartheid-style permanent subjugation. With over 18,000 Gazans dead and whole neighbourhoods reduced to rubble, it also horrified humanitarian observers as confirming the operation’s true goal – the collective punishment and breaking of a people deemed unworthy of basic rights.
While the Biden administration reflexively shields Israel from accountability, Hotovely’s arrogant unilateralism may strain even its restraint. Her cheerleading for permanent occupation undermines U.S. claims that ultimately, Palestinians might secure some diluted autonomy akin to glorified Bantustans.
With the two-state solution now forcibly interred by an Israeli diplomat, what emerges in the ashes remains terrifyingly unclear. Gaza’s civilian body count climbs daily, but the ambassador envisions only more “re-education” at gunpoint. Her government is rapidly extinguishing hope – perhaps by design. Yet despair born of injustice has its own curriculum. If her harsh vision holds, the lesson it teaches may eventually shake the very foundations she deems eternal.
Israel has become Hamas’s biggest recruiter…
