Beyond Scandal: The MP Accused of Rape They Won’t Name

The Sunday Times didn’t hesitate to name Russell Brand as a rapist, now I just can’t wait till next Sunday to see if we get another story that also genuinely serves the public interest. The story that involves a Member of Parliament out on bail, facing accusations of rape.

The one where this undisclosed Conservative MP, who, yes, you guessed it… for legal reasons, remains unnamed, found himself under arrest in May 2022 on charges including indecent assault, sexual assault, and rape, among others.

Astoundingly, he has been granted bail on six separate occasions since his initial apprehension.

What’s even more disconcerting is that openDemocracy has acquired evidence suggesting that this politician hasn’t ceased his involvement in the local community, even working with children.

Even more astonishingly, he has continued to receive personal donations and gifts, including an eyebrow-raising “private holiday” funded by a donor associated with an All-Party Parliamentary Group in which he holds a seat.

This man, now in his 50s, was advised against visiting the parliamentary estate during the course of the investigation, though he has not faced suspension from the party.

A statement from a Metropolitan Police spokesperson sheds some light on the matter: “In January 2020, the Met received a report relating to alleged sexual offences dating back to between 2002 and 2009, said to have occurred in London.

The investigation is ongoing, led by officers from Central Specialist Crime. A man, aged in his 50s, was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust, and misconduct in public office. He was taken into custody and has since been bailed, with further enquiries slated.

Magistrates have now given the Metropolitan Police Service permission to keep the politician on bail until mid-February 2024.

The man was first arrested almost 16 months ago, on May 17, 2022.

However, his bail has since been extended six times – first to August 2022, then November, then February 2023, then May, then August, and now to February 2024.

The Met Police said: “An extension to his bail was sought at magistrates’ court. This was granted and he now returns on a date in mid-February 2024.”

Enquiries continue.”

The accused MP has repeatedly shared photos on social media, depicting himself at events alongside teenagers and children. He has also maintained his role as a contributor to a local publication and has been an attendee at political gatherings beyond the confines of Westminster.

Come on Murdoch point your shit stick…
