Dear Friends,
As we turn the page on 2023, all of us at Labour Heartlands want to thank you for your loyal readership and support this past year. It is only through your dedication to our shared values that we can keep this site going strong as an independent progressive voice.
For many 2023 has been a dark year, a hard year, with economic uncertainty and widening inequality inflicting real pain on communities nationwide. Wars and tyranny spreading around the world. But it was also a year that proved ordinary people have not lost their resolve. Across the country, you marched for change, you marched for peace, volunteered in your towns, and stood up for justice and dignity even in these dark times.
Now 2024 dawns ripe with possibility. This can and must be a year of reinvigorated activism, of raising our voices in unison to demand the fair and compassionate society working people deserve. There are better futures within our grasp, if we dare reach for them together.
The political establishment wants us silent and compliant as they continue serving the interests of the wealthy few. But united, our voices cannot be ignored. 2024 can see the birth of a new movement, new parties that sweep aside the failed status quo to put communities back in control of their destinies.
It will be a year of hard work, of difficult conversations, of disappointment but also hope. The path forward remains shrouded in fog, but the first step is clear – we must come together and get organised. At Labour Heartlands, we pledge to support your efforts however we can.
The destination is uncertain, but the journey begins today. We enter 2024 with renewed purpose, buoyed by the knowledge that people power can and will prevail. Let’s lift the banner together. Thank you for walking this road with us. Solidarity now, solidarity forever.
Onward, friends. The future is ours to claim.
-Paul Knaggs, Labour Heartlands.
