In the Spotlight: Russell Brand’s Allegations and Counterarguments
Social influencer Russell Brand has been accused of serious sexual misconduct, including rape, in an investigation published by the Sunday Times and Channel 4βs Dispatches. The allegations span a 7-year period during Brandβs rise to fame.
According to the media channel and importantly to note, not the police. Four women in interviews with journalists have allegedly detailed abusive behaviour and sexual assault by Brand between 2006-2013.
The accusations are alarming, though key details remain unclear. Brand denies all wrongdoing, claiming the relationships were consensual.
We must approach such allegations carefully. Sexual assault victims deserve to be heard, and false accusations can also ruin lives. At this stage, the reports present one side.
Brand maintains transparency about his past relationships and denies coerciveness.
Of course, denials alone should not invalidate credible accusations. But the outletsβ decision to publicize the claims before any charges or convictions gives Brand little recourse to defend himself through proper legal channels.
Trial by media is not a just substitute for due process. Some ask why the outlets did not first provide evidence to authorities to investigate confidentially. The fact is, spectacle often takes priority over discretion in the rush to break a story. Still, both accuser and accused deserve protection until facts emerge.
No matter the truth or not on these accusations, for the establishment Brandβs real sin is speaking out against elite corruption and establishment conformity. Mud sticks, and even if heβs exonerated later, the damage is done. Make of that what you will.
While the Metropolitan Police acknowledged media reports of these allegations, they stated that they had not received any formal reports. Nevertheless, they encouraged anyone who believes they have been a victim of sexual assault, regardless of when it occurred, to contact the police.
The allegations and the full investigative report can be found on the Sunday Times website, while Channel 4 will broadcast a documentary titled “Russell Brand – In Plain Sight” at 21:00 BST.
Russell Brand statement
Hello there, you Awakening wonders. Now, this isnβt the usual type of video we make on this channel where we critique, attack, and undermine the news in all its corruption. Because in this story, I am the news. Iβve received two extremely disturbing letters, or a letter and an email: one from a mainstream media TV company, one from a newspaper.
Listing a litany of extremely egregious and aggressive attacks, as well as some pretty stupid stuff. Like my community festival should be stopped, that I shouldnβt be able to attack mainstream media narratives on this channel. But amidst this litany of astonishing, rather bizarre attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute. These allegations pertain to the time when I was working in the mainstream, when I was in the newspapers all the time, when I was in the movies, and as Iβve written about extensively in my books, I was very, very promiscuous.
Now, during that time of promiscuity, the relationships I had were absolutely always consensual. I was always transparent about that, then almost too transparent. And Iβm being transparent about it now as well. And to see that transparency metastasized into something criminal that I absolutely deny makes me question, is there another agenda at play? Particularly when weβve seen coordinated media attacks before, like with Joe Rogan when he dared to take a medicine that the mainstream media didnβt approve of. And we saw a spate of headlines from media outlets across the world using the same language.
Iβm aware that you guys have been saying in the comments for a while, βWatch out, Russell, theyβre coming for you. Youβre getting too close to the truth.β Russell Brand did not kill himself. I know that a year ago there was a spate of articles, βRussell Brandβs a conspiracy theorist, Russell Brandβs right-wing.β Iβm aware of news media making phone calls, sending letters to people I know. For ages and ages, itβs been clear to me, or at least it feels to me, like thereβs a serious and concerted agenda to control these kind of spaces and these kind of voices. And I mean my voice, along with your voice.
I donβt mind them using my books and my stand-up to talk about my promiscuous consensual conduct in the past. What I seriously refute are these very, very serious criminal allegations. Also, itβs worth mentioning that there are witnesses whose evidence directly contradicts the narrative that these two mainstream media outlets are trying to construct. Apparently, in what seems to me to be a coordinated attack.
Now, I donβt want to get into this any further because of the serious nature of the allegations. But I feel like Iβm being attacked, and plainly they are working very closely together. We are obviously going to look into this matter because itβs very, very serious. In the meantime, I want you to stay close, stay awake, but more important than any of that, if you can, please stay free.
