Keir Starmer has been forced into sacking Peter Mandelson as the UK’s ambassador to the United States, after fresh evidence exposed the full extent of his relationship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The Foreign Office admitted the decision was made β€œin light of additional information” contained in emails between Mandelson and Epstein.

The emails, officials say, reveal that β€œthe depth and extent of Peter Mandelson’s relationship with Jeffrey Epstein is materially different from that known at the time of his appointment.”

Most damning of all, Mandelson is said to have suggested that Epstein’s original conviction was β€œwrongful and should be challenged”, a line that now makes his position untenable.

In a rare moment of accountability, the Foreign Office confirmed:

β€œIn light of the additional information in emails written by Peter Mandelson, the Prime Minister has asked the Foreign Secretary to withdraw him as Ambassador. In particular, Peter Mandelson’s suggestion that Jeffrey Epstein’s first conviction was wrongful and should be challenged is new information. In light of that, and mindful of the victims of Epstein’s crimes, he has been withdrawn as Ambassador with immediate effect.”

For Starmer, it’s not just the collapse of a high-profile appointment. It’s a reminder that his inner circle remains haunted by old ghosts: the toxic legacy of Mandelson, the whiff of New Labour cronyism, and the stench of Epstein’s shadow. The fact all three belonged to the anti-democratic Trilateral Commission should not be ignored.
